Range of Ultrasound Probes

The ultrasound probe, also known as an ultrasonic transducer, is a device used in ultrasound imaging to convert electrical signals into sound waves (ultrasonics) and vice versa. These sound waves are sent into the patient’s body, where they bounce off tissues, organs, and fluids. The resulting echoes are captured by the probe, converted into electrical signals, and processed by the ultrasound device to create an image of the examined area.

Ultrasound probes come in different shapes and sizes, tailored for specific applications such as abdominal, cardiac, obstetric, vascular, or musculoskeletal exams. The frequency of the ultrasound waves produced by the probe determines its resolution and depth of penetration: higher frequencies offer better resolution but shallower depth of penetration, while lower frequencies penetrate deeper but with lower resolution.
